Magnolia virginiana | | Sweetly Scented |

|
A choice, small magnolia with aromatic, 4" creamy white flowers in June & July. Truly a distinctive tree, it fits in naturalized plantings or more formal settings. Lustrous, 3-5" oblong foliage has a silvery coating on the back, seen when the wind blows. Handsome by a patio where the sweet aroma can be appreciated. Shiny leaves last late & are partly evergreen in warm areas. Gracefully upright, spreading form to 15 ft. It tolerates wet & clay, unusual for a magnolia. Bright silver to tan bark is pretty. This is the hardiest Northern strain, it adapts from the South to New England & Midwest.
